Noise cancellation depth, driver size, and battery hours don't predict comfort or call clarity. Here's what to look for instead.
The spec that's always overstated
Manufacturers list ANC depth in decibels, but the number means little without knowing the frequency range. Good ANC cuts low-frequency rumble (trains, HVAC, open offices). It doesn't block sharp voices well and isn't supposed to.
What actually matters for daily use
Multipoint Bluetooth lets the earbuds connect to two devices at once. If you use a laptop and a phone, this is worth more than an extra 5dB of noise cancellation.
Ear tip fit determines both comfort and how well the ANC works. If the seal is bad, the ANC is fighting itself. Most brands include three sizes; try all of them.
Call quality and ANC quality often trade off against each other. Models that advertise both rarely excel at both. Check real-world call reviews, not the spec sheet.
